How to get sharp prints from your phone photos

· 4 min read

Modern phones take great photos, but not every file is fit for a large print. With these tips your collage comes out crisp.

1. Always use the original

Chat apps and social media shrink photos to save data. Upload the photo straight from your phone's gallery or camera instead.

2. Avoid screenshots and digital zoom

A screenshot only has the resolution of your screen, and digital zoom throws away pixels. Crop later in the editor instead.

3. Aim for about 3,000 pixels

Ideally the long side of a photo has 3,000 pixels or more. That's normal for any recent phone. Older or downloaded photos are often much smaller.

4. Put your sharpest photo in the biggest spot

A large frame needs more pixels than a small one. Our editor shows which photo is sharpest and can move it into the large frame with one tap.

5. Check before you order

The sharpness check in the editor rates every photo as sharp, fine or 'may look soft' for the size you picked. Want to test a photo first? Use our free photo quality check.

6. Good light beats everything

Photos taken in daylight have less noise and more detail than photos taken in the dark. When in doubt between two similar shots, pick the brightest one.
